Donation to USC Keck, Non-Profit Status, Puncak Jaya, and Mount Everest

The CAP campaign will donate $7,500.00 to Keck USC School of Neurology, and specifically, Dr. Petzinger, who’s life work is addressing neurocognitive disorders (like Parkinsons disease) and managing them through complex exercise activities. We also expect to donate another $15,000.00 by March 31 next year, with our campaign focus on climbing Mount Everest.

As of this blog entry, the IRS had received and is reviewing the application for non-profit status. I have the name and phone number of the agent who is reviewing the campaign. I call him regularly, and he regularly tells me his computer is broken and to call back. This seems a bit suspicious! In any event, I will placate the situation, despite my frustration. I should have confirmation of acceptance or denial of the application by October 24.

I have deposited the funds necessary to climb Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Australia. I will deposit the remainder and with good luck be on the summit on January 1, 2019. Due to inter-tribal hostilities, I will be unable to travel through Western Papua, and will instead travel using various mechanical aids like planes and helicopters. If the company does not book 5 climbers (right now there are 3 booked), the trip will be continued to another time.

I will leave for Mount Everest on March 31, and return June 1. The expected Summit day will be around May 10. The goal will be to raise $50,000.00 for the climb, and of that donate $15,000.00 to Keck USC. More updates to follow.
